Get a fresh, beautiful sound with clear resonance.
Spike bases combining African ebony and ceramic.
Composite structure of ebony and ceramic. Prevents metallic ringing and delivers clear, lively sound.
The PB-18 is a hybrid spike receiving base made from African ebony and alumina ceramic, developed to support the legs of equipment such as speakers and amplifiers that use spikes.
Advantages of Premium Ebony and Composite Structure
- African Ebony Material: Extremely hard, dense, and beautiful, this premium material is heavy and durable. It is well-regarded for its excellent resonance.
- Prevents Metallic Ringing: Prevents the metallic ringing sound that occurs when spikes are placed on metal bases.
- Accurate Hold: The moderate firmness (or softness) of African ebony and its beautiful resonance allow metal spikes to bite in just the right amount, holding them securely.
Vibration Control Reinforced by Alumina Ceramic Chips
To further enhance the base's vibration-damping effect, the PB-18 employs a special structure on the underside.
- Use of Ceramic Chips: Alumina ceramic chips are embedded on the underside that contacts the floor, supported at three points.
- High Hardness: These ceramic chips have a hardness of 9, next only to diamond, and being relatively light, they produce clear and pristine sound.
- Floor Protection and Stability: The tips of the chips are rounded, allowing stable placement without scratching the floor.
Sound Quality Improvement Effects
The combination of metal and wood provides the following sound improvements:
- - Almost no metallic ringing occurs
- - Tightened bass
- - Pinpoint support delivers fresh, clear sound without distortion
- - Achieves beautifully resonant and extremely clear playback

Compared to metal insulators, it adds a natural warmth to the soundstage and slightly increases the amount of information, making the presence of the performers feel more real. At the same time, thanks to the excellent vibration-damping properties of ebony, the contours of the sound image are refined, giving the overall impression of a calm and easy-to-listen-to sound.
The high machining precision is also noted, with no wobbling, making it reliable to use, which is another appealing feature.
