Yamamoto Acoustic Crafts MGB-50 Magnetic Floating Base

The MGB-50 is sized to fit into a rack. It is an audio board with neodymium magnets placed at four locations on the lower part of the beautifully resonating laminated Asada cherry wood and combined with a strong African ebony wood base, the board itself floats due to the repulsive action of the magnetic force.

Improved signal-to-noise ratio for clear reproducibility

Compared to general audio boards, which work by damping vibrations, the magnetic floating base floats audio equipment in a nearly non-contact manner, preventing vibrations from the floor from being transmitted. This eliminates not only external vibrations, but also the resonance of the audio equipment itself and vibrations reflected off the chassis. The elimination of noise improves the signal-to-noise ratio, making the soundstage quieter and the spatial perspective better, and improves the sense of localization and resolution with richer information. Bass is deep and powerful, and high frequencies are sharp and extended.

The effect is particularly noticeable on piano, where the touch is firm and sharp. Another significant difference is the clarity of the movement of weak notes. This enhances the expressive power of the sound and produces a highly vivid sound.

When a CD player is placed on the speakers, it is clear that the SN level has been improved. CDs should not be affected so much by external vibrations, so it seems that vibrations and resonances with ground surfaces have a strong effect on the equipment itself. In other words, the mechanism's vibrations are more likely to escape, which suppresses reflections on the state of the equipment and thus reduces noise. This is fundamentally beneficial because the background noise is reduced and the sound field becomes quieter.
