A small body with overwhelming musicality
The final evolution of Alpair 5, which is crafted with MAOP technology
Special specifications with single suspension + MAOP processing
The MAOP5 is a full-range unit that is Markaudio's first single-suspension Alpair 5v3 with a dedicated cone that has been treated with MAOP (Micro-Arc Oxidation Process). It combines light response and excellent resolution, and reproduces all the delicate nuances of music. The deep tone and high spatial expression make you want to listen to it involving.
The background of the birth of MAOP5
This model began in 2019 when Markaudio developer Mark Fenlon fired only 50 Alpair 5 cones on a trial basis when crystallizing the MAOP 11. A limited number of 23 pairs were produced and sold using the cones, and despite being announced only on the official blog and homepage, they sold out immediately. There have been many requests for resale, and the 50 pairs produced in 2020 quickly sold out. From then on, it has only been produced at a very limited time.
Limited production and thorough quality control
MAOP treatment is a special process that crystallizes the surface of a cone, and is not suitable for mass production as it takes more than two months to complete a single treatment. Therefore, the MAOP 5 is a limited production, and the assembly is done by skilled engineers from our own factory and Mark Fenlon himself. Each unit is carefully assembled, all units are measured in an anechoic chamber, and after confirming the T/S parameters, frequency characteristics, and impedance characteristics, they are shipped as matched pairs.
MAOP – Strong field oxidation crystallization treatment
MAOP (Micro-Arc Oxidation Process) is a special oxidation crystallization process applied to the surface of a magnesium aluminum alloy cone. This process involves oxidation progressing over a long period of time in an alkaline electrolyzer solution applied to a high voltage of 700V, forming countless fine crystal structures on the surface of the cone. By applying this treatment, the surface of the cone changes to a unique crystal structure with reduced gloss. Crystals containing countless fine bubbles form, which have a major impact on acoustic properties.
MAOP is not just a coating, it is a process that changes the cone itself. Therefore, the mass increase of the cone is kept to just under 0.4%, resulting in an overwhelmingly lighter finish compared to typical coatings. You can see countless crystals that look like sponges and fine air holes. This precision structure maintains the rigidity of the metal, while moderately disperses and absorbs vibrational energy, creating a damping effect that is like a pulp diaphragm. As a result, extremely flat frequency characteristics and quiet, transparent sound quality are achieved.
