Substandard wideband speaker unit

Plays flat up to 37kHz using the world's first diaphragm material MAOP and Pluvia7HD drive unit

Description

This is an amazing wideband speaker unit that exceeds the conventional wisdom of full-range unit performance. This driver is equipped with the MAOP cone and the high-performance drive engine of Pluvia 7HD, which is descended from the old Alpair 7, in the latest design glass fiber chassis.

MAOP7 is designed to be ideal for a typical 12-20 tatami environment, and reproduces the original sound with a very delicate, dynamic, and speedy feel.

Voice coil with Rectangular Wire

The MAOP_7v2 uses a rectangular copper wire for the voice coil. The conversion efficiency in the magnetic field is about 30% higher than that of a round wire, so the drive weight (MMD) can be reduced. In addition, the eddy current in the midrange is reduced, and the coil has fewer folded parts and can be designed with a larger surface area, contributing to the overall sound quality of the MAOP7v2.

In addition, the reduction of eddy current in the midrange and the ability to design a large surface area with fewer folded parts of the coil contribute to the overall sound quality of the MAOP_7v2.

MAOP (Micro-Arc Oxidation Process Cone)
Strong electric field oxidation crystallization process

The MAOP series features a matte, low-gloss surface, which is the name of the surface treatment.

This process involves immersing an alloy cone in an alkaline electrolytic solution with a very strong voltage (700V) applied for a long time (1 to 2 weeks) to oxidize the surface and generate crystals. By using this process, as shown in the photo, the surface of the cone changes into a flexible crystal with countless bubbles (many holes). (This method changes the cone itself and is not a coating, so there is almost no increase in mass.)

You can see countless small crystals and air holes that look like the surface of a sponge. The piles of metal and air holes created through several weeks of the process make the reproduced sound natural.

This groundbreaking invention achieves a damping effect on a metal diaphragm similar to that of a pulp diaphragm using a new material that dumps the cone where micro-resonance patterns occur as it passes through the surface. This is why it is said to be a very quiet driver, achieving remarkably flat characteristics across a wide frequency range.

Ultimate Transparency with MAOP Treatment

  • When I first played the MAOP unit, what struck me most was that the 'background silence' felt on a whole different level. Thanks to the remarkable suppression of unnecessary vibrations, the noise floor is extremely low, giving a sense of quiet where the sound seems to emerge from a 'vacuum.' Because of this, even the slightest breaths or fluctuations in the air become clearly audible, making the depth of the music feel significantly greater.
  • The speed unique to a small-diameter driver is superb, with both the attack and decay of sounds being incredibly fast.
Perhaps thanks to the MAOP treatment, it was possible to follow even the subtlest nuances in the sound, and I found myself captivated by its high resolution.

Ideal Characteristics of a Small-Diameter Full-Range Driver

  • Due to its 70mm small diameter, the excellent imaging of a 'point source' is especially striking.
Sound images are clearly positioned in space, creating a natural feeling that makes you forget the presence of the speakers. The sound stage does not become narrower simply because of the small diameter; in fact, it expands impressively in three dimensions.
Above all, the midrange reproduction is truly outstanding.
  • Vocals appear as if they are right in front of you with a sense of realism, and the pure, clear tone resonates comfortably. The texture of acoustic instruments is also very realistic, making it easy to become absorbed in the sound.
