The FRT-120K (nickname: Pamina) is a ribbon-type super tweeter with a transformerless design that achieves wideband reproduction from 4kHz to 120kHz.
Its effect is not just to emphasize the high frequencies. It naturally brings out the three-dimensionality of vocals, the resonance of instruments, the air drifting in a hall, and the fine details around the sound image, making the expressive power of the original speaker clearer.
Rather than a change that makes only the high frequencies stand out, the FRT-120K enriches the sound field and makes the entire music feel natural and open, which is a major feature.
Full-drive ultra-lightweight ribbon diaphragm
The diaphragm uses an ultra-lightweight, vertically elongated ribbon diaphragm with a flat coil formed on a film. By driving the entire diaphragm uniformly within a strong magnetic field, excellent response characteristics up to 120kHz are achieved.
Since the diaphragm is driven across its entire surface rather than at just one part, it does not require excessive stiffness. This allows for lightweight construction and enables quick, smooth response to input signals.
Additionally, the vertically long ribbon shape excels in horizontal directivity, making it easier to achieve natural sound stage expansion. A protective guard is placed in front of the diaphragm to safeguard the flexible ribbon diaphragm.
Transformerless structure and built-in low-cut filter
The FRT-120K is a transformerless design, not using the conversion transformers typically employed in ribbon units.
Inside, it has a built-in low-cut filter using PPS capacitors and litz wire air-core coils, allowing direct connection to the main speakers. Polyethylene-coated oxygen-free copper wires are used for wiring, and non-magnetic materials for input terminals to reduce signal loss.
No external super tweeter adapter is included. The necessary filter circuit is built into the FRT-120K itself.
Cabinet carved from hard wood
The unit is mounted on a block of wood that provides weight and hardness. It holds the unit stably and suppresses unnecessary vibrations while maintaining the natural texture unique to wooden cabinets.
Bubinga wood is used in the model shown, but as it is a rare material, the wood used may change depending on the production period and material availability.
Rigorous inspection and pairing
Completed products are rigorously inspected before shipping, and after confirming the characteristics, the left and right sides are paired. By aligning the left and right playback characteristics, the sound field of the main speakers is naturally enhanced without compromising the localization of the sound image or the sense of unity in the space.

It is easy to think that adding a super tweeter will only change the extension of the high frequency range. However, what is impressive about the FRT-120K is that it changes the overall atmosphere of the music space, including the low range.

About installation and adjustment
Basically, it is installed on the top of the main speaker, and the front and rear positions of the diaphragm are adjusted to match the baffle surface of the main speaker and the position of the high frequency unit.
By changing the front and rear positions little by little, you can change the cohesion of the sound image and the way the space spreads. First, place the left and right sides in the same position, and while listening to music, find the position where they fit together most naturally.
In the MJ magazine test, it was combined with a KEF Q950 with an efficiency of 91dB and 8Ω. Although the FRT-120K has a resistance of 86dB and 6Ω, there is no unnaturalness caused by the difference in efficiency, and it has been praised for blending smoothly into the music.

For trial listening, the FRT-120K was installed on the top of the KEF Q950 and adjusted so that the diaphragm was aligned with the front of the main speaker.
