Freely control the phono curve

Simply attach it to your phono equalizer to increase the variety of phono curves.

Description

By connecting it after a phono equalizer that only supports RIAA, 25 additional curves can be created using various combinations of BASS and TREBLE, making it possible to support major EQ curves other than RIAA. This allows you to fully enjoy even old records.

By using only passive components with no amplifier or power supply required, we achieved highly pure sound quality. Being purely analog technology, we paid particular attention to the components: resistors are non-magnetic PRP resistors from the USA, capacitors are PPS type encased in special resin, and all contacts are gold-plated. Continuous variation is avoided, and sound-quality-focused rotary switches are used. It has a fully mono construction with no conduction between the left and right grounds, and a non-magnetic aluminum chassis.

To support old recordings, it features a mono switch. Mono records offer concentrated sound with strong midrange and excellent musicality. Although you can play mono LPs with a stereo cartridge, the sound feels spread out, and the energy is dispersed. Listening to mono records in mono or with mono connection yields about a 3dB improvement in S/N ratio. Using the mono switch on the PCA-25 reduces surface noise by 3dB. With the mono switch engaged, you can experience the clear, unwavering confidence in the sound, similar to a mono cartridge.

Even for RIAA records, there are many recordings where you might want to slightly boost or cut the high frequencies. In such cases, this device allows you to make adjustments freely. The PCA-25, with its simple design that minimizes sound degradation, allows you to enjoy a free and comfortable audio life.

Furthermore,PCA-25 canBy placing it between a preamplifier and a power amplifier, it can be used as a high-purity tone control even for program sources other than records. If you want to use it with XLR, assign one unit for the positive signal and the other for the negative signal. Externally, it is possible to use two units with a conversion cord from XLR to RCA and a conversion cord from RCA to XLR.

Review

Accuracy and Effectiveness of Phono Curve Correction:

  • The first thing that surprised me when I started using the PCA-25 was how the 'distortion' on vintage records suddenly disappeared, and they sounded completely different. Thanks to its ability to accurately match various phono curves before RIAA, such as Decca and Columbia, imbalances in frequency range and noticeable distortion are naturally eliminated. The effect is especially significant on older records, making me re-listen in amazement, thinking, 'So this is how good the recordings actually were.'
  • Just by matching the curve, the focus of the sound image becomes much tighter, and localization becomes astonishingly clear. I realized all over again how proper equalization can refine the sound to such an extent.

Acoustic Quality of the Product:

  • What’s wonderful about the PCA-25 is that despite having adjustment functions, its color of sound is extremely neutral. There are no accompanying sounds or peculiarities unique to equalizers; it simply brings out the information recorded on the records as it is. Noise is also minimal, giving high audio clarity and allowing you to confidently shape the sound. As a result, the soundstage naturally expands, and the sense of depth is greatly enhanced.
The increase in clarity gives an impression of even being able to perceive the atmosphere of the recording environment.

Usability and Design:

  • The very intuitive operation is another pleasing point. There’s no need to memorize complicated settings; you can switch curves just by turning a knob, which makes it fun to casually compare vintage records. There are many discoveries such as realizing 'Ah, this record really shines with this curve,' making you want to play every record in your collection one after another.
