For listeners seeking magical clarity

The 300B with wire mesh anode, combining the magic and clarity of anode tubes

Description

For listeners seeking magical clarity: 300B Mesh Anode Tube

The Emission Labs (EML) 300B-Mesh is designed for those pursuing the ultimate beauty of triode sound. It features the "magical transparency" and delicate, rich expression of a wire mesh anode tube, delivering musical nuances vividly with deep, expansive sound. This characteristic is especially pronounced when paired with high-efficiency speakers (106dB or higher) and low-to-medium output amplifiers.

A pure soundstage realized by the mesh anode

The greatest feature of the EML 300B-Mesh is its mesh anode structure. It thoroughly suppresses unwanted resonances (ringing caused by the bell effect) that normally occur with solid plate anodes, thanks to the high damping ability of the mesh anode. This results in a more transparent soundstage and pure playback, allowing for a realistic stereo reproduction with enhanced depth and spatial expression.

Long anode design and high-quality construction

This product features a long anode configuration that is 25% longer than the standard 300B. Equipped with a mesh anode mounted on a rigid metal frame, gold-plated tungsten grid, and ultra-rigid structure, it achieves optimal stability and long life. Additionally, technologies aimed at improving sound quality and durability, such as cathode tap filaments, slow-start filaments, and anti-microphonic design, are generously implemented.

The ultimate balance of sound and power
Due to the nature of vacuum tubes, balancing sound quality and output is important. The EML 300B-Mesh prioritizes sound quality over high output, and when paired with high-efficiency speakers (106dB or higher), it delivers rich volume and beautiful sound even at lower output. The unique transparency and delicate sound of the wire mesh structure provide a musical experience that envelops the listener.

Usage conditions for optimal performance

The EML 300B-Mesh is designed for sound quality rather than high output, and is therefore recommended for use with lower anode loss than standard 300B tubes. Recommended anode loss is 22W, maximum 28W. For optimal performance and long life, please ensure the amplifier's anode loss is less than 26W. By observing these conditions, you can safely enjoy the delicate, transparent sound quality and high performance of this unit.

EML 300B-Mesh vacuum tube replacement conditions

EML 300B-Mesh tubes can be used to replace standard 300B tubes if the following conditions are met:

  1. Bias and Anode Losses: Anode losses should be reduced to 22 watts typical or 28 watts absolute maximum (see table below for details).
  2. Filament Current: It is important that the amplifier is capable of supplying a minimum of 1.4 amps of filament current. If this is not met, the heater voltage will drop below 5V and the vacuum tube may fail.
  3. Vacuum tube size: 300B-Mesh is a "long anode" specification with an anode that is 25% longer than the standard 300B. Therefore, the physical size is equivalent to EML's 300B-XLS vacuum tube, and larger than the regular 300B. For sealed amplifiers, the length of the tube glass does not matter, but please see the end of the data sheet for detailed dimensions.
  4. Anode heat dissipation properties: Mesh anodes have lower heat dissipation properties than solid plate anodes. Therefore, the maximum anode loss during continuous use of 300B-Mesh should be limited to 22 watts typically and 28 watts absolute maximum. This is a standard operating condition adopted by many Japanese amplifiers, but some amplifiers operate above this number, so if you are unsure of your amplifier's anode losses, it is best to check with the amplifier manufacturer beforehand.

By meeting these conditions, you can safely enjoy the transparent sound quality and high performance of EML 300B-Mesh.

EML 300B-Mesh filament rating

filament voltage = 5 volts (AC or DC)
Filament voltage tolerance 4%
filament current ~1.4 amps

300B-Mesh Maximum Conditions

You cannot use maximum current and maximum voltage at the same time.

Maximum Anode Voltage 450V
Anode Current 80mA
Peak Anode Dissipation 28W
Grid Resistor @ Anode Dissipation = 22W 100k...350kΩ
Grid Resistor @ Anode Dissipation = 24W 100k...250kΩ
Grid Resistor @ Anode Dissipation = 26W 100k...140kΩ
Grid Resistor @ Anode Dissipation = 28W 100kΩ or less

* For the best lifespan, it is recommended to choose an anode dissipation of up to 26W, but 28W is also possible if compromising for lifespan. If you need higher output than the 300B-Mesh, select the standard 300B-Mesh or upgrade to the 300B-XLS.

Spacious Soundstage Due to Mesh Plate

  • The first thing I noticed when actually listening was the excellent 'openness' of the soundstage. It is extremely wide, naturally deep, and gives the impression that a three-dimensional scene rises effortlessly before your eyes. While imaging is precise, the sound gently spreads beyond the speakers—this sense of freedom is very pleasant and strongly conveys the openness unique to a mesh plate.
  • The high frequencies extend well without ever being harsh, maintaining a very refined character. The sound is delicate enough to reveal fine nuances, yet it never feels piercing, leaving only a clear transparency.

Stability and Strength Produced by the Long Anode

  • In the low frequencies, the benefits of the long anode are evident. The foundation is solid and stable, with ample volume that maintains clear contours. Even at high volumes or with complex arrangements, it feels confident and provides strong support to the overall music.
  • There is also a sense that the drive and dynamics have been elevated to a higher level. Sound images are tightened, and the tone becomes more focused, allowing the intensity and expression of the performance to come across more directly.

Low Noise and the Joy of Ownership

  • The tranquility of the background is a noteworthy feature. With extremely low noise, the way the music rises smoothly from the silence reflects the high level of craftsmanship typical of EML. Additionally, the unique beauty of the mesh plate itself is another major attraction. The delicate glow when it is lit brings satisfaction just from looking at it. I felt that this piece not only delivers sound but also the joy of ownership.
