Description.

Bakun Products has created the CAP series to produce a high-quality music life with a size that fits just right in small spaces.
The CAP-1004 is a multi-curve phono equalizer amplifier developed to play vintage analog discs more correctly. The most important feature of the CAP-1004 is that you can use 6 different equalizer curves to enjoy vintage discs in your collection.

Before 1960, the current standard RIAA curve was not the only equalizer curve used for vinyl records, and many other curves were used as well. The CAP-1004 is an equalizer amplifier with six different curves: NAB, COLUMBIA, FFRR, AES, and OLD RCA, which are the current standard RIAA and older equalizer curves.

In addition to switching between MM and MC cartridges, the CAP-1004 has four equalizer gain settings, depending on the cartridge used: 0 dB is used for MC cartridges with low output voltage, and -30 dB is used for high output cartridges with output voltage exceeding 10mV. When switching the equalizer curve, the 1KHz gain is designed to fluctuate within 0.3dB when the EQ is switched, which is useful when switching curves to check for sound changes. By setting it to mute, switching each selector, changing cartridges, and cleaning needle tips can reduce noise generation.

Noise is shut out by adopting battery power supply.

A mobile USB charger or mobile battery can be used as the power source. Current consumption is 5V250mA, so a 10AH battery can be used for 40 hours. Using a mobile battery allows the CAP-1004 to operate at its best without being affected by noise.

Review

Baccoon Products knows what they are doing. Vintage analog disc collectors are always tempted to listen to the analog discs in their collections with the equalizer curves of the era in which they were recorded. In reality, there are few phono amplifiers that allow you to choose the equalizer curve, so the CAP-1004 is a "buy" for that reason alone, since you will never have such an opportunity. Since there is no indication of the recording format on the record jacket, it is difficult to know which equalizer curve is used for a particular record, but that is what makes it so enjoyable. I like to listen to my favorite songs and ask myself, "What about this curve? "Oh, so this is what it does...?" The exploration? The search is never-ending. The transparency is extremely high, the sound is very high quality, and the noise is extremely low. The time for fun passes in a blink of an eye.

A masterpiece of a phono equalizer in pursuit of CP
If you own stereo recordings up to the early 1960s, this is definitely a must buy.
Mono recordings from the 1950's are also very effective, and the sound, which I once gave up because I thought it was just the character of the recording, is now so much better than before.
However, there are many recordings where it is unclear whether the EQ curves are really correct or not, so the listener's sense is required. Whether this process is easy or difficult depends on the ability and perseverance of the person who owns the software. I gave it 4 stars because the parts used are rather small and the power supply (using a 5V mobile battery) is rather small, but even with AC, the sound through a PC audio power supply or noise cut transformer is rather good and depends on the power supply. The sound quality is wonderful that the sound quality of FM acoustic phono recovers in the past and the gain position can be set finely in the MC position to correspond to all cartridges because of the SN ratio that exceeds 130db. The mute function when switching EQ curves and the volume difference between the EQ curves are also well set, making it a wonderful phono system with attention to detail. If you own stereo recordings up to the early 1960s, this is definitely a good buy.
